The Venus Flytrap, Dionaea muscipula, is a carnivorous plant that catches and digests bestial prey - mainly insects and arachnids. Its trapping construction is shaped by the terminal portion of each of the plant's leaves and is induced by very small hairs on their interior surfaces. When an insect or spider crawling alongside the leaves contacts a hair, the lure closes if a different hair is contacted in twenty seconds of the initial strike.
